Traditionally, managing a WordPress site, whether a single blog or multiple client sites, required manual logins and navigating various dashboards to check posts, comments, traffic, and updates. This process was time-consuming, as AI tools lacked direct, secure access to real-time site data.
MCP revolutionizes this by enabling AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor to securely connect with your WordPress.com site. This provides direct visibility into your site’s content, analytics, and settings, all from within your AI tool. The primary benefits include significantly faster workflows, eliminating the need for manual data retrieval and streamlining operations. It also centralizes all site content, data, and insights, allowing AI and WordPress.com to work together seamlessly.
Security is a core feature; MCP is designed with OAuth for safe access, ensuring no data is stored locally, and users retain full control to connect or disconnect at any time. Initially, the integration offers “read-only” access, allowing AI assistants to surface information and insights securely without requiring manual logins. “Write” access is planned for future development.
WordPress.com is the first WordPress host to implement MCP with OAuth by default, making all paid plan sites MCP-ready. Users can enable it by connecting their preferred AI app and authenticating via OAuth. Examples of its utility include asking an AI for the performance of the latest post, running comprehensive health checks across multiple sites with prioritized action plans, or summarizing recent comments to understand reader engagement.
